Does It Cost Money To Join Club Fencing?
Of course not! We are funded by Campus Recreation, so everything is covered.
Who Can Join Club Fencing?
Club Fencing practices are open to all enrolled students of Princeton University, both undergraduate and graduate.
What’s the Time Commitment?
Although we recommend coming to one or two practices each week, feel free to come whenever your schedule permits! We want to be accommodating to both the hardcore fencer and the recreational fencer. Attendance is taken at practice only for statistical purposes.
Does Club Fencing Compete?
Yes we do! We go to a variety of competitions, from local single weapon tournaments to large all weapon tournaments. We provide the transportation as well as backup equipment if needed. Competition is entirely optional and is not a requirement for membership.
When Are Practices?
The Practice Schedule tab is a comprehensive schedule for the semester. Typically practices are held on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons and are two hours long. We do not hold practices during midterms, finals, and breaks.
How Do I Join Club Fencing?
If you have fencing experience, all you have to do is come to practice. We’ll show you around, and then you can get right to fencing!
If you have never fenced before, come to our “open practices” in the beginning each semester. We teach new members all the basics of fencing, including bladework, footwork, and safety. Fill out this form to be notified about open practices for the Spring 2025 semester!
Which Weapons/Styles Do You Support?
All of them! We have members practicing foil, sabre, épée, or any combination of the three!
What Kinds of Social Events Do You Hold?
Club Fencing hosts a suite of events during the semester to keep our fencers connected off the strip. Past activities include Trivia/Game Night, Cheese + Drink Night, and Netflix watch parties.
I’ve Never Fenced Before. Do You Take Beginners?
Yes! We take people of all levels. In fact, a large percentage of our members (and officers) started Fencing during their freshman year!
No equipment is necessary to join. Club Fencing has equipment storage space in Dillon Gym to provide new students with protective equipment and a weapon. They only thing fencers need to bring are athletic clothes and a water bottle!
